A federal project provides for a
500 foot wide entrance channel 45 feet deep converging at the jetties to a 450
foot wide channel 42 feet deep leading to a turning basin 42 feet deep with
north and south extensions 31 feet deep. From the turning basin southward,
the Intracoastal Waterway leading to the Southport terminal has been dredged to
a project width of 500 feet and a project depth of 42 feet. The Port
Everglades Department has dredged the south extension of the turning basin to a
depth of 38 feet.
Note:
Certain parts of the channel and other navigable waters are somewhat deeper than
project depth.
Mariners are advised to consult the U.S. Coast Pilot and the pilots before entering the harbor. Consult your current chart or the
Local Notice to Mariners
from the USCG Seventh District for current
Controlling Depths in the channel.
Offshore and north of the entrance channel
is the
commercial anchorage. Vessels using this anchorage are required to provide the
U.S. Coast Guard with a 24 hour advance notice of arrival. Upon arriving
at the anchorage, vessels are to notify their position and time of anchoring to
the Port Everglades Harbormaster on VHF channel 14.

Draft limitations
within Port Everglades are provided here for informational purposes only.
Official draft limitations are promulgated by the Harbormaster's Office.

Exceptions:
(1) Berth 30 - Ships going
to the zero (0) mark on the dock are restricted to 35 feet draft at any tide up
to 37 feet with sufficient tide. Ships with a draft above these
restrictions shall be spotted no further west than the fifteen (15) foot mark on
the dock.
Notes:
(1) At
certain berths, additional drafts may be handled with the approval of the
Harbormaster and Pilots.
(2) "At all tides" means any tide which is not an occasional negative tide,
with respect to Mean Lower Low Water. A negative tide reduces the "all
tides" draft limitation accordingly.
(3) "Sufficient tide" means that the available tide must be greater than
the amount of which the ship's draft exceeds the "all tides" limitation, during
the entire transit of the ship.
(4) The Maximum Draft Limits in Slip 3 (Berths 12-15) are valid to 50 feet
east of the bulkhead. There are soundings indicating less than 31 feet
within 50 feet of the bulkhead at Berth 14 and less than 36 feet in Berth 13.
